Show of hands — who wait until the last minute to shop for Christmas? I have to say, I don’t usually fall in that group, but this year is different.
I have more people to shop for this year than ever, and that’s all good and fine, but it completely slipped my mind that I needed to throw together some teacher gifts too.
My daughter’s school lets out two weeks before Christmas, and I simply thought I had more time.
But lucky for me, I had all the ingredients on hand to throw together some super cute and easy DIY Cookie Jars (as my daughter likes to call them) and add in some additional gifts as the wrapping for a cohesive and unique gift anyone would enjoy!
Now let me show you what I mean when I say “Cookie Jars”…
DIY “COOKIE JAR” GIFTS – THE PERFECT LAST MINUTE GIFT IDEA FOR ANYONE ON YOUR LIST
All I mean is grabbing a mason jar, laying in the dry ingredients for a cookie recipe, wrapping it up, and calling it a day!
Sounds simple, right? Well, that’s because it is!
Now I’ll walk you through exactly how I make them and how I love to keep extra on hand just in case I need a quick gift.
STEP 1: GRAB A MASON JAR
For this cookie recipe, you’ll need a 32oz mason jar. If you don’t have any on hand, you can snag them from your grocery store or Amazon here!
I suggest buying extra just in case other people pop into your mind that you need to gift!
STEP 2: BEGIN LAYERING IN YOUR INGREDIENTS
I know what you’re thinking, and yes it’s truly as simple as that! For this ‘Christmas Cookie’ recipe, I layered in…
1.5 cups gluten-free 1:1 baking flour along with 3/4 teaspoon baking soda and 1/4 tsp salt. Combine, then add it to your jar.
1/2 cup coconut sugar (or brown sugar)
5 tablespoons cane sugar
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
Fill the rest with Christmas M&Ms!
STEP 3: COMPLETE THE RECIPE WITH SOME TAGS AND TWINE
Write down the rest of the recipe on a tag, and attach it to your mason jar with some twine or ribbon!
I used these tags for mine and wrote the ingredients and directions on them. If you are more creative than me, you could create sticker labels to adhere to the jars instead or simply use a recipe card.
For this recipe, you’ll need to write:
- Add in: 1/2 cup melted coconut oil, 1 egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
- Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- Combine melted coconut oil with egg and vanilla.
- Stir in your jar ingredients until combined.
- Chill mixture for 10-20 minutes.
- Spoon onto cookie sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes.
- Enjoy!
STEP 4: WRAP YOUR GIFT
Now for the fun part! Grab a dishtowel (I love Olive & Linen kitchen towels and always have a few on hand for gifts).
Simple wrap up your mason jar in the towel, making sure not to lay your jars down on their sides so your cookie mix doesn’t mix altogether.
Tie it with a ribbon and add a little cookie cutter for decoration, and you’ve got yourself the perfect little gift!
