Gallery rails for shelves can get super expensive, and you’ve probably heard of people using lamp parts to create them for less.
But where do you buy said lamp parts? And how do you put them together?
Let me walk you through it really quickly!

HOW I CREATED A BRASS RAIL FOR MY PANTRY SHELVES OUT OF LAMP PARTS
First I measured the length of the shelf so I had that on hand.
Here’s what I ordered…
- Ball Heads (holes on both sides)
- Ball Heads (for the ends – one opening)
- Rods (there are multiple sizes – I used 8″)
- Brass necks (the posts)

You can order different length rods depending on the size of your shelf!
I started by screwing the ball heads onto the brass necks. Then I connected them by screwing the rods into the ball heads.
Honestly, it was SO easy. I used hot glue to secure them on my shelves. TBD if that holds up, but so far so good!
Pro tip: Order a couple extra of each piece! I was missing a couple in my order.
I love how they turned out, and I love even more that you can customize this method for any size shelf. Let me know if you give it a try!

Omg yes! Thank you for walking it through step by step! I’ve yet to find a video with someone building it.
This is pure genius!
Where did you order the supplies from? I’ve looked up brass neck and found some of them but not the ball heads.
I missed WHO you ordered the parts from??
All the details are linked towards the top of the page 🙂
How did you attach them to your shelf?
I used hot glue to secure them on my shelves.
