Q: Where do you shop for lighting?

Q: What’s your favorite hardware brand?
I rounded up some of my favorite hardware. It’s always fun choosing these small details.
Q: Where’s the bench in your entryway from?
I found our entryway bench at Target. It comes in so many cute patterns.
Q: What steam mop do you use?
I never used a steam mop until recently and I’m officially addicted. Our floors had scuff marks and sticky spots for a long time, but not anymore!
Q: What color is your front door?
I rccently painted our front door Blue Skies by Magnolia in Satin.
DIY Tips
Q: What types of caulk do you use for different projects?
For trim I like DAP Alex Flex. For bathrooms or wet locations, I use 100% silicone caulk!
Q: When should you wet sand vs. dry sand?
You can use a wet rag to “wet sand” joint compound so there’s less of a dust mess, but in my experience, it will never give you a smooth and perfect finish like actually sanding will!
Q: When using a stencil, how do you keep the paint from bleeding?
Use less paint than you think you need! Building up several light coats instead of one heavy coat helps prevent the paint from bleeding underneath the edges and gives you much cleaner lines.
Q: How do you make a picture frame? What trim should you use?
I started with a 2×4′ piece of plywood that I primed and painted. Then using a l” piece of decorative trim around the raw edges and a 2.25″ piece of egg and dart trim on front as the frame! Both with mitered edges I filled and sanded. Everything I used is linked here.
Q: What trim do you recommend for frame moulding?
I’ve used this one from Lowe’s around my house and love it.
Q: What stain combination did you use on your entryway cabinet?
I mixed a combo of Simply White Minwax gel stain with Aged Oak Minwax gel stain. Used a firm brush to add the gel stain over the paint, brushing continuously in the direction of the wood grain, then once dry I sealed the table with 2 coats of Varathane crystal clear matte poly.
Q: Can you share a link to your miter shears?
Of course! I picked these up at Home Depot recently.
