I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again – it is so important to spend your time and energy on the spaces in your home where you spend your time and energy.
What do I mean exactly?
Whether you know it or not, your home has a lot to give. It can help you feel safe, calm, and at peace.
But if it’s not taken care of, it can be a source of unsettledness, stress, and anxiety.
A few years ago, I refused to update and refresh my master bedroom. After all, it was a space that I spent my time in, so shouldn’t I focus on updating the spaces for the whole family?
But as time went on, I realized that I wasn’t resting and recharging like I should have been. I was restless, anxious. And it took me a minute to realize it was because the energy my bedroom was giving off was anything but restful.
There were pieces of furniture that didn’t have a purpose, piles in corners, and no cohesive vision for the room. Not to mention, there was furniture I simply didn’t like.
So I set out to refresh my bedroom to create a peaceful, cozy oasis of restfulness for myself. And once I did, there was no turning back.
I realized then and there that the spaces in our homes that we turn a blind eye to, that we fail to give a purpose to, will continue to be a source of negative energy until we give them the attention and purpose they deserve.

RELAX, REFRESH, & RECHARGE WITH THESE COZY BEDROOM FAVORITES FROM WAYFAIR
After I refreshed my master bedroom on a budget to create a space that I felt at peace and well rested in, I received countess questions on how I did it. My secret? Budget friendly sites like Wayfair!
So today, I’m sharing how you can refresh your bedroom simply and easily to create that oasis that you deserve with a few of my favorite Wayfair finds (plus several sale items too).
Here are a few finds that were calling my name to create a cozy, neutral, bedroom on a budget!
But now let’s chat more about the why behind each, shall we?
THE FOUNDATION
A GOOD MATTRESS
I won’t spend a lot of time on this, but it’s so important to have a cozy foundation when it comes to a room refresh.
You room needs to look good, but it has to feel good too!
Trust me, it will make the biggest difference!
COZY COTTON SHEETS
When you give a little extra attention to items like these, you’ll end up thanking yourself later. Like I said, it’s not all about how your spaces look – it’s about comfort, too.
THE BED (THE STAR OF THE SHOW)
Since we’re already talking about the bed itself, let’s continue that conversation! The bed in any bedroom should be the focal point – the star of the show.
You typically want the bed to be front and center, on a back wall in the room as you walk in. It should command your attention first.
When creating a cozy, refreshing bedroom, I tend to go neutral. Neutrals are calming and allow you to add in pops of color (and take them away) as you see fit.
To build a cozy, refreshing, neutral bed, here is what I’d do…
THE BED FRAME
An upholstered bed frame like this pretty beige tufted bed from Wayfair adds a softness to your space. Materials you choose can end up telling a story of the look and feel you have in mind.
If you want something comfy and cozy, consider an upholstered bed instead of a wooden or metal bed. Bring wooden or metal elements in elsewhere as accents rather than the main focus.
COMFORTER & SHAMS
Next of course come the comforter and shams. I always like to pick something that’s bright and white with a little texture to add a little something to the space. This chevron set is perfection!
In fact, it’s very similar to the bedding I have in my master bedroom right now.
Choose bedding that feels like you, and don’t be afraid to make a statement with it, even if that statement is calm and subtle.
PILLOWS
Once you choose your bedding, have some fun with the pillows! I always like to remind people that there really are no rules when it comes to the type of pillows or the number of pillows you need to have on your bed.
Choose pillows to pull in colors and styles from around the rooms so they can help pull everything together, and make sure you snag a couple extras to rotate through or to toss in a chair so they coordinate.
Here are some of the ones I’d choose for this space…
ENSOBURGH SQUARE PILLOW COVER & INSERT
This pillow adds so much texture between the tassels and the material while staying calm and subtle due to the lack of patterns and neutral color.
This would be a good staple pillow to add to the bed. I’d grab two or three to rotate through on the bed and to tie into the room elsewhere.
ILENE COTTON THROW PILLOW
Snag a pillow with all the texture that pulls in a few different colors throughout the space to really help tie it all together. This kind of pillow makes an impact while also creating that cohesiveness you need in a smaller space.
RACHNA LUMBAR PILLOW
Remember that square tassel pillow? Well luckily, it has a matching lumbar pillow! Now, I’m not usually one to go too matchy-matchy with bedroom pillows, but it’s always good to have those anchor pillows in your space.
Snag one of these too to help coordinate with the others and ground everything. Plus, different shaped pillows create that height and size variation that you need in a cozy bedroom!
GARRIS RELAX INDOOR/OUTDOOR LUMBAR PILLOW
We’re creating a nice, relaxing bedroom, right? So why not add a little reminder with a fun pillow?
This lumbar pillow can be another statement pillow on your bed, or it can hold it’s own in a nearby chair. Plus, the black and white color scheme plays well with the decor and styling in the rest of the space.
Let me show you what I mean!
To start, let’s furnish the rest of the space.
FURNITURE
AIKEN ORIENTAL IVORY AREA RUG
Before we add decor, we should add in the larger pieces.
I like to think of the rug as almost being its own piece of furniture rather than a decor statement. Rugs pull together rooms and spaces, define them, and show you where to look.
I love this Aiken Oriental Ivory Area Rug because it adds a fun vintage pattern to the space. This soft, subtle pattern creates a sense of calm and peacefulness in the space.
Add this rug under the bottom two feet of the bed frame, and make sure it runs horizontally. You want this rug to help pull the eye out from the bed and into the rest of the room.
NIGHTSTANDS
Next up, moving out from the bed, are of course nightstands! I prefer to choose something that makes a statement but that is a little low-profile as to not take up too much space.
DRESSER
This helps tie the dresser into the bedding we chose, where the nightstands help tie in the rest of the decor in the space.
Plus, the dresser is always one of the larger pieces in a room, so I prefer to keep the design light, bright, and low-profile as to not overwhelm the room.
This now becomes a nice blank canvas for decor!
But before we get to decor, let’s add one more piece…
THE ARMCHAIR
I feel like most rooms should have a chair of some kind in them. This pretty Rundle T-Cushion Armchair Slipcover is the perfect cozy addition to a cozy bedroom chair.
Grab an old armchair from another room in your home and add it in a corner with this slipcover, one of the pillows from the bed, and a nice throw, and you’ve got yourself the perfect oasis.
TIME TO DECORATE
Okay, okay. Now it’s time to decorate!
START WITH THE LIGHTING…
Over the nightstands, I’d add these two pretty brass sconces to match the hardware. They would help draw your eye up and accentuate the footprint of the nightstands to help them make a bigger statement.
Next, add a floor lamp near your armchair to help define that space a little more.
Notice I’m mixing metals here! Remember how the dresser has black hardware? I’m balancing it out with this floor lamp here.
I love mixing metals and think it adds some interest to a space. My tip is to only choose two and make sure you work to balance out your finishes in a room.
NEXT, FOCUS YOUR ATTENTION OVER THE BED
I love adding a sign with some greenery over the bed, like this Stay Awhile sign.
This will help tie in the black and white in the rest of the room and goes well with that “Relax” pillow from above (remember that?).
Drape some eucalyptus greenery over the top for a little pop of life and color, and you’ve got yourself the perfect, simple over-the-bed decor.
NOW FOR THE WINDOWS…
Because window dressings are such a simple way to add height, balance, and dimension to a space!
I love adding bamboo shades to windows with sheer white curtains.
Bamboo shades add some warmth with their natural color and tie in nicely with the anchor pillows on the bed.
TIME FOR A FEW FINISHING TOUCHES…
You always need a mirror in a bedroom, right? Remember that dresser we chose earlier?
Because it’s a little lower to the ground, adding a mirror above it adds some nice height and helps define the space a bit more.
Hanging this pretty Candler Accent Mirror in brass above the dresser or simply leaning it up against the wall on top of the dresser adds a fun element of interest.
Plus, it helps tie together the metals we chose for the room.
Place the mirror on the left side of the dresser and place these pretty decorative bottles in front of the mirror so they begin to take up space on the right.
The height variation from the mirror to the bottles continues your sightline and helps make the decoration feel more intentional and balanced.
Add some greenery to the bottles to help tie them into the garland you added above the sign, and you’ve got yourself a nice, cohesive and cozy room!
GO RELAX
Now that your cozy space is all done, it’s time to go relax and recharge in it! By simply choosing the right staple pieces and decorating with intention, it’s easy to create a restful space with style.
