After my dry shampoo review segment, many of you asked if I could test out some mascaras too.
And there were four brands in particular that most of you were asking about. Benefit, Too Faced, Maybelline, and Loreal.
I had my work cut out for me!
So I found all 4 on Amazon and got to work, and I quickly realized that this test wouldn’t be easy!
Why you ask?
Because each mascara is known for a different thing, and there are definitely pros and cons for all of them. There is no perfect mascara (that I’ve found anyways) that gives you perfect length, volume, and curl with zero flaking.
So I’m going to share my favorites, but I’m also going to share all the pros and cons here so you know exactly what to buy depending on what your mascara priority is!

4 POPULAR MASCARAS TESTED AND REVIEWED SO YOU CAN CHOOSE WHAT’S BEST FOR YOU
MASCARA #1: LASH PARADISE BY LOREAL
This is a fan favorite! Many people say it’s a Too Faced Better Than Sex duplicate because the formula is almost the same, but it’s 1/3 of the price.
I’m not 100% sure I agree!
This mascara impressed me — it definitely worked better than I thought it was going to. But it was a lot more focused on volume and seemed a little clumpy to me.
Plus I felt like it didn’t help my lashes curl at all. Maybe it’s just me, but I felt like I put this mascara on and it just straightened my lashes out.
It was also a touch flakey, but I’m sure that’s due to the volume it adds.
All in all, I didn’t love this one which shocked me because so many of you swore by it!
But it only costs $8 and is definitely better than many other brands out there.
If you’re focused on volume and finding an inexpensive mascara that works well but just isn’t quite perfect, then this is your ticket! Because volume isn’t my number 1 concern, this one ranked lower on my list.
MASCARA #2: BETTER THAN SEX BY TOO FACED
Another fan favorite, but this one costs about $25. Worth it? I think it might be. This mascara was really good! Same kind of volume and length that Lash Paradise offered, but in a bit of a cleaner way.
It’s not as clumpy but still provides great volume and helps to curl your lashes a bit. This one was flakey too (I am thinking most volumizing mascaras are) but I definitely felt like the formula was a little more refined here.
If I was going for a volumizing mascara and was between Lash Paradise and Better Than Sex, I’d go with Better Than Sex personally, but you really can’t beat the price of Lash Paradise!
MASCARA #3: DEFINE A LASH BY MAYBELLINE
Moving on to the length category. This mascara really impressed me. While volume isn’t it’s thing, it does one thing well – clean length. Define A Lash it does indeed.
This mascara really separated my lashes, gave me great length, and was incredibly clean. Zero clumps, zero flakes.
The best part? This one is only $8 too! Like I said, really impressed!
Best in show in the length category alone!
MASCARA #4: THEY’RE REAL BY BENEFIT
Last up was my normal go-to, They’re Real by Benefit. This had always been my favorite. It’s another mascara focused on length but it adds a little volume too.
Just a little something Define A Lash couldn’t do.
I saved this one for last knowing I already liked it to see how it held up after the other three, and I realized I think it’s still my ultimate favorite because of the fact that it provides me with the length and definition I want PLUS it adds a little volume too.
This one is on the pricier side though, costing $25.
THE BOTTOM LINE?
If you’re looking for inexpensive mascara with good volume and some length, go with Lash Paradise.
If you’re looking for a slightly more refined mascara with fewer clumps, good volume, and a little lash curl, go Better Than Sex
If you’re looking for great length at a low price with no flaking, go with Define A Lash.
If you’re looking primarily for length with a little added volume, go with They’re Real.
I hope this helps you make your decision! Let me know which one you’re going with!
